Hokies vs. Hoos Habitat Challenge - Upcoming Events!

hokiesvshoos-logo-2.jpg
Since August, we have been working to raise money & volunteers for the first cooperative rival build in Habitat for Humanity history. To date, the Clubs have raised almost $16,000 collectively, with the Hokies enjoying a slight lead of $1,000. We’re a quarter of the way to our goal of raising $65,000 to build a house for a deserving local family, and the Hokies are in need of monetary donations, corporate sponsors, building material contributions and volunteers to build the house.

To make donations, go to www.hokiesvshoos.com…if your company would like to make a larger donation or be a corporate sponsor, email Jennifer Jones.

Next Event:
The true Hokies vs Hoos is coming soon, and the Habitat Challenge won’t miss being a part of this! We will be loud and proud at the UVA/VT game on Saturday, November 24, 2007.

There will be a raffle with great gifts and folks the chance to “Hit a Hoo”. If you will be tailgating, look for the HokiesvsHoos volunteers walking around collecting donations and showing UVA how it’s done…if you would like to help us collect donations, please email us at: hokiesvshoos@gmail.com.

VT Engage… Giving back from the April 16 tragedy

vt-engage2.jpg
The time is now to be a part of VT Engage!!! There are over 20 Richmond area organizations to pledge your time with to help fulfill the Virginia Tech Alumni Association’s goal of 300,000 hours of community service between October 16, 2007 and April 16, 2008.

The Richmond alumni chapter officers and committee chairmen are challenging Richmond area alumni to pledge and log the most number of volunteer hours out of all of the alumni in the world!!!

***CLICK HERE TO FIND THE FULL LIST OF RICHMOND AREA ORGANIZATIONS YOU CAN CONTACT TO PARTICIPATE***
NOTE: If you want to volunteer your time with another organization of your choice, please feel free to do so. Just be sure to pledge and log your hours accordingly.

You can visit http://www.engage.vt.edu/ to officially pledge your volunteer hours. You can also e-mail volunteer@richmondhokies.org or call our 24-hour hotline at (804)257-0788 and press 2 to leave a message with your contact information. This important ongoing initiative is being launched by a university-community partnership team with the leadership of faculty and staff in Outreach and International Affairs and our Service-Learning Center.

We are joining the university on Blacksburg’s main campus and the Richmond community in launching VT Engage. This is a chance for students, staff, faculty and the community to remember the victims of April 16th while also committing to serving in our community in the next year and beyond.

VT Engage is an outgrowth of what we have learned, what we can do – what we collectively can continue to do to create positive change in our world. Virginia Tech has a goal of pledging and performing collectively 300,000 hours of service in the spirit of our university motto—Ut Prosim—That I may serve. Our VT alumni have also pledged to meet this challenge by pledging and performing an additional 300,000 hours.

VT Engage is an opportunity, and it is an individual choice. Through VT Engage, we can acknowledge the scores of students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general community who engage in philanthropic activities as regular parts of their lives. Through action, Virginia Tech can demonstrate its commitment to be a 21st century university, focused on social responsibility and justice. One of the ways to do that is through VT Engage.
